POSITION SUMMARY

The Junior Accountant is responsible for accounting functions as delegated by their Manager.  He or she will be able to complete a multitude of accounting functional activities as well as backup payment processing and accounts payable.  They will follow established accounting processes and procedures.  They will have a general accounting background, skills and experience and be able to work with minimal supervision.  This position reports directly to the Manager of Financial Planning and Analysis and works with others within the company, as well as outside vendors, for the successful completion of projects.  This is a full time position.  Regular working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 am- 4:00 pm, although, there is some flexibility in hours within the confines of the job requirements.

 PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Process chargebacks
  • Assist with agent commissions Collections review Backup payment processing and Accounts Payable
  • Calculate, prepare and process refund checks.
  • Coordinate and distribute workflow to clerical staff.
  • Maintains documentation and executes established accounting processes and procedures.
  • Assist in daily and monthly accounting and reporting activities.
  • Creates journal entries and makes postings to the general ledger.
  • Assists with month end accounting close processes.
  • Assists with monthly analytical reports as directed. Assist with 1099’s.
  • Performs daily and monthly bank and general ledger account analysis and reconcilements.
  • Completes routine accounting assignments.
  • Answers payment processing and accounts payable questions from other departments.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality on all files and records.
  • Maintain positive interpersonal skills and abilities. 
  • Engage in cognitive and analytic abilities. 
  • This position is subject to occasional business related travel that includes driving.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.  The employee is required to write; reach with hands; and key frequently on a computer for long periods of time (4 or more hours per day).
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

SKILLS

  • General understanding of accounting processes and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively (both verbal and written) with diverse people in multiple business situations.
  • Self starter that needs minimum supervision.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Must be able to establish priorities in work assignments and have the ability to multi-task and work under pressure and deadlines.
  • Must be able to exercise independent judgment and have good decision making. 
  • This is a largely sedentary role requiring the use of standard office equipment such as a calculator, computer, laptop, cell phone, phone(s), photocopier, filing cabinet and fax machine. 
  • Most work is completed in a corporate office environment. 
  • Employees must be able to sit for long periods of time, and type. 
  • Ability to work flexible hours if needed.

EXPERIENCE

  • 1-3 years accounting experience required; Insurance industry experience preferred. 

EDUCATION

  • Associates Degree in Accounting or equivalent required.
