Position Summary:

The Litigation Representative will be responsible for proactive management of assigned caseload of litigation files from initial suit to assignment through final disposition of the file.  Will also be responsible for oversight and direction of defense counsel assigned to each matter.

Essential Functions:

  • Review and evaluation of initial lawsuit and the underlying file
  • Maintain regular diary and follow-up on entire pending
  • Reserve review and evaluation as to accuracy on all assigned files
  • Collaboration with and direction of defense counsel as to the defense of the assigned matter
  • Litigation expense monitoring and control
  • File evaluation and negotiation of individual lawsuits
  • Attendance and participation at mediations, settlement conferences and trials
  • Coordination of final settlement documents and payment of settlements
  • Provide monthly reports to management as to pending, closures and priority cases
  • Evaluation of defense firms and individual attorneys as to performance
  • Provide notice to management of all scheduled trials
  • Provide direction to assigned legal assistant as to support matters/tasks assignments

Required Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma required – college degree preferred; law degree a plus
  • CPCU or SCLA Claims designation a plus
  • Florida adjuster license (5-20 or 6-20) required
  • 7+ years of claims experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years’ experience handling or supervising litigation files for an insurance carrier
  • Homeowners insurance experience

Decision Making Authority

Each Litigation Specialist/Representative has decision making authority on day to day handling of assigned matters as to discovery, experts and direction of the file as well as reserve and settlement authority up to $35,000.
