We are seeking a talented and dynamic claim professional to join our Professional Liability team as a Senior Claims Specialist. This position will handle primary and excess claims involving Fidelity, Crime and Fiduciary claims. Note: This position can be based in Alpharetta, GA, New York City, Chicago, Princeton, NJ or Kansas City, MO working in a hybrid model. Other remote locations may be considered.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
- Independently handle a portfolio of large and middle-market primary and excess claims, including analyzing proofs of loss, insurance coverage issues and drafting coverage position letters
- Handling of severe and complex claims with significant potential exposure up to $25M
- Investigate coverage and damage issues in connection with claims made by our insureds and maintain appropriate documentation
- Ability to evaluate claims and quantum, and make accurate reserve recommendations
- Ability to independently attend mediations / settlement conferences and negotiate claim resolutions
- Assign and supervise outside counsel, accountants and other venders in an effort to effectively resolve claims and initiate recoveries
- Maintain and develop relationships with insureds, brokers and outside counsel
- Communicates regularly with Senior Claim and Underwriting Managers on large losses, reserving, account trends, coverage matters and industry trends
- Professionally represents AXIS as needed in the marketplace and assists underwriting as needed
- Respond to broker and insured inquiries with a high level of customer service and urgency
- Assess claims to support claim metrics/trends in coordination with Senior Claim and Underwriting Managers and teams
- Participate in special projects and department initiatives
- Provide best-in-class claims service
Required Education, Experience and Attributes:
- Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school strongly preferred, but not required.
- 7+ years’ experience at either a law firm or an insurance company handling insurance related matters, preferably Fidelity, Crime and Fiduciary claims.
- Excellent negotiation, communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Team player willing to proactively assist the wider organization as needed.
Other desires skills and characteristics:
- Ability to prioritize and work in a fast-paced environment
- Prior exposure to Fidelity, Crime and Fiduciary claims
- Prior experience with severe claims and significant exposures impacting policies with limits of liability between $1M and $25M
- Familiarity with other Specialty/Professional Liability lines preferred.
- Ability to communicate across all levels of the organization and with external clients and others in a prompt, concise and appropriate manner
- Excellent writing skills
- Demonstrated negotiation and analytical skills
- Adjuster licenses where required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and OneNote) and Share Point
