Accountant

About the Role

As Accountant you’ll join one of the Midwest’s leading workers’ compensation and risk mitigation insurance organizations. You have responsibility for numerous key functions related to accounting procedures and financial analysis within the Finance Department. You develop and maintain the budget and planning process. You complete ad hoc financial analysis. You deliver accurate and timely financial, regulatory, and statistical reports.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Analyze accounting reports and prepare general ledger entries, financial statements, and other reports for multiple entities
• Provide input on the development and maintenance of cost accounting expense allocation
• Provide financial information to compliance department in support of annual and periodic regulatory tax and assessment requirements
• Prepare quarterly and annual financial statements to satisfy regulatory and audit requirements
• Analyze complex, non-routine transactions
• Make recommendations to improve efficiencies and internal controls in accounting processes
• Review and approve all recurring payables, electronic bank transactions, and new vendors added to the general ledger system

Skills & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
• 5 or more years of related experience; insurance industry experience is highly desired
• Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) is required; experience with Statutory Accounting Principles preferred
• Experience generating financial reports and analyzing financial statements is required
• Experience maintaining budgets and forecasts is preferred
