Auto Property Damage Claims Adjuster

Job Summary:   The Auto Property Damage Claims Adjuster is responsible for the evaluation, negotiation, and settlement of auto, truck, and other material and physical damage claims for Canal Insurance Company.

Major Accountabilities:

  1. Document information, investigate, verify coverage, and make decisions consistent with local laws and claims practices.
  2. Appraise, evaluate, and handle automobile, heavy truck, trailer, and equipment damage claims, including total losses, to conclusion within authority.
  3. Communicate and negotiate with interested parties as appropriate.
  4. Establish and maintain financials including reserves, payments, and resolution of claims without payments.
  5. Monitor, with management consent, approved external vendors.
  6. Perform other duties as assigned by Management.

    • Technical: Ability to utilize industry platforms (CCC, Adjustrite) to accurately assess damage and determine repairable versus total loss. Estimate repair versus replacement of components to include the selection of OEM versus non-OEM parts, labor operations, and fees associated with the resolution of an auto property damage claim.
    • Directing Vendors: Establish and convey objectives and expectations with individuals and organizations providing external services to Canal. Manage vendors to ensure cycle time and performance meets organizational requirements.  Vendors may include independent appraisers, repair shops, rental agencies, and salvage disposal. 

Qualifications

Education/Training Requirements:  Bachelor’s degree or commensurate experience required.  Adjuster’s license required. 

Experience/Specialized Skills:  Minimum of five years auto property heavy equipment damage adjusting or repair experience required. Familiarity with basic insurance and tort law as well as an understanding of basic legal principles and terminology as it relates to insurance operations preferred.  Intermediate computer skills (word processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail) required.
