Job Summary
The MGA Program Business Claim Expert- Property Practice Team Leader will work closely with other members of Specialty Insurance Claims to work with and provide guidance dealing with claims by applying technical and management expertise as to case strategies and ensuring the proper handling of claims in accordance with SCOR best practices. The candidate will bring knowledge of the business environment, contribute towards SCOR taking an enhanced position on claims and handling for the management and resolution of claims within their and their direct reports’ authorities. Responsibilities will include ensuring compliance with Claims Guidelines, evaluating staff performance, and setting departmental and direct reports’ objectives, and where applicable, ensuring that claims related activities are undertaken in accordance with the SCOR’s standards.
This role will work with the AVP US MGA Program Claims in the management and development of Program Business at SCOR (which is written on admitted and surplus lines company paper), as well as participate with internal partners such as underwriting, operations and actuarial in the vetting of new program opportunities and prospective Third-Party Administrators (TPAs), as well as ongoing analysis and reporting of loss trends and data for the various programs assigned.
Furthermore, the position entails developing colleagues under their management, by mentoring, training, and coaching where appropriate. The candidate will assign claims, manage workloads, set objectives, and monitor performance.
Key duties and responsibilities
- Manage a pending of high value and/or complex referral claims from TPAs, including reporting to internal partners and leadership
- Supervising 1-3 claim professionals, ensuring that the work product of the team and TPAs is consistently of good quality, on time and in compliance with the global claim handling guidelines/TPA contract
- Approve financial transactions on TPA handled claims within his/her authority for themselves and their team
- Assessing direct reports’ job performance, compensation and any employee relations issues that may arise
- Quality controlling the analysis, handling and documentation around various programs and claims handled within the assigned team. Work on property losses from both within and outside the team supervised.
- Collaborating and assisting in the account management of assigned programs within the team, often interfacing with other internal department representatives
- Personally conducting, and supervising team members in the scheduling, tracking and report writing related to TPA claim audits and due diligence reviews
- Analyzing loss and expense trends on loss portfolios, emerging risks and large losses; assisting in the development and implementation of plans to improve results; influencing team members to do the same
- Anticipating internal and external customer needs and expectations and delivering great customer service
- Reviewing, analyzing, and recommending updates as necessary to claims service agreements with TPAs or other outside vendors on MGA Program business, organizing efforts with both SCOR Americas Legal Department and claims counsel
- Collaborating with SCOR’s internal partners to insure all necessary regulatory and compliance reporting requirements are met by TPAs
- Actively participating in the ongoing development of operational efficiencies within the unit, including but not limited to, optimizing technology, identifying work process enhancements and testing and implementation of systems as necessary.
Required experience and Education
- 10+ years of claim handling and people management experience
- College graduate preferred
- Post-graduate degree and/or industry certification/designations a plus
- High level technical property claims handling experience including litigation management
- Must be able to work independently and perform well within a team environment
- Knowledge and proficiency of office management systems and procedures, including MS Office
- Excellent time management skills and the ability to multi-task and set priorities
- Excellent organizational skills including the ability to handle a large volume of work
- Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders both verbally and in writing
- Experience handling property and litigated claims
- People management experience
- Excellent Excel and Word skills
- Access data base and Tableau skills a plus
