About the Role

The Underwriting Associate- Health and Welfare insurance job opening in Boston is an immediate opportunity to join one of the region’s largest insurance brokers to support financial analysis, marketing and client service activities. Here is a quick snapshot of the position:

  • Location: Boston or Worcester. Due to COVID, most employees are working from home. A hybrid work-from-home schedule can be arranged when most people return to work in the office.
  • Compensation: $80k-$85k depending on experience + annual bonus potential.
  • Major Themes Of This Position:
    • Ensure that all aspects of client Health & Welfare financial reporting and analysis are handled accurately, professionally, and consistent with established protocols.
    • Support renewal projections, plan design analysis, and contribution modeling for client health plans.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Analyze data pertaining to client’s Health & Welfare corporate benefits plans
  • Look for emerging trends and patterns
  • Assess utilization and claims reports
  • Calculate financial & risk analysis
  • Prepare reports and spreadsheets to share & communicate information with clients and underwriters
  • Look at employee contributions
  • Use predictive modeling to assess alternative funding options, plan performance and cost reduction strategies

Skills & Experience

  • Advanced Excel skills and general mathematical principles
  • At least two (2) years of health and welfare underwriting experience with exposure to rating, plan design & performance and funding arrangements
  • Knowledge of insurance company data reporting systems is highly desired
