Summary

Under the direction of the President and CEO, the CFO is key member of the Executive Management team. The CFO is primarily responsible for providing leadership and coordination in the areas of financial planning, accounting, reinsurance, regulatory reporting, risk management, and budgeting for the organization and subsidiaries. The CFO monitors the financial health of the organization.    

Essential Functions

  • Provides key leadership in the development and continuous evaluation of short and long-term strategic financial objectives
  • Management and oversight of Accounting and Financial functions for the organization
  • Manages and leads finance teams including supervision, progress reviews and plans for improvement and team building
  • Responsible for integrity, accuracy and timeliness of all internal and external financial reporting.  Leads budgeting and forecasting for all entities
  • Builds and uses financial models and systems for proactive analysis of results and forecasting
  • Oversees required quarterly reports to rating and regulatory agencies
  • Manages the surplus capital position and reporting
  • Oversight of reserving activities
  • Quarterly reports and updates to the Departments of Insurance.  Periodic reports and updates to A.M. Best.  Tax reporting and filings for all entities. Planning and oversight of ceded and assumed reinsurance program with intermediaries and partners. Primary contact and leadership for relationships with independent auditors, actuaries and tax preparers.   Responsible for corporate insurance
  • Monitoring and reporting on capital adequacy and profitability trends for all entities to management, boards, and external constituents
  • Evaluates and advises on the impact of long-range planning, introduction of new programs/strategies and rating and regulatory actions/directions
  • Works with executive officers to ensure a disaster recovery plan is in place.  Works with executive officers on the Company’s ERM risk management plan
  • Ensures that effective internal controls are in place and serves as key internal control officer for the organization
  • Ensures compliance with STAT, GAAP and applicable federal, state, and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting
  • Attends board meetings as chief financial officer and holds primary responsibility for financial updates, reports, and trends.  Preparation of regular analysis of results for boards and management
  • Participate as a member of the Executive Team and other team or special committee assignments. Authority to make decisions to carry out the operations of enterprise as defined by the CEO
  • Assists in performing all tasks necessary to achieve the enterprise’s mission and help execute staff succession and growth plans
  • Works with CEO on the strategic vision including evaluation of new business strategies and expansion possibilities      

People Management – Directly-Financial Controller; Oversees Accounting Department

  Job Requirements, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor’s Degree minimum; Advanced Degree Preferred
  • CPA or CMA certification
  • 15+ years Insurance management experience
  • 10+ years Accounting and Finance experience
  • High level of Finance and Information Technology technical knowledge
  • Excellent presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills 
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws affecting Accounting and Financial Reporting
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with particular attention to detail
  • Exceptional organizational skills
  • Solid time management skills
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality when dealing with private company and employee data
