We are currently looking for an Underwriter I – Personal Lines, to assist with production processing as well as handling calls from agents regarding their insurance policies. The Underwriter I – PL reviews new and renewal policies and endorsements to determine insurability following client and company guidelines. Addresses underwriting concerns, obtains all required documentation and takes underwriting action on non-compliant submissions within company guidelines.
Primary job responsibilities include:
- Reviewing applications for insurance coverage, reporting from loss control consultants and other information to determine if application is acceptable for the available client program(s).
- Evaluating and determining policy cancellation or reinstatement, modification of coverage form or limit within client and company guidelines.
- Evaluating the experience of a risk against the class of business under review.
- Evaluating the loss potential due to catastrophe, severity, and/or frequency.
- Reviewing Wind Mitigation inspections according to procedures.
- Processing transactions and adjust records as necessary and within company policy and procedure guidelines.
- Analyzing transactions, search available records using computer, printouts and/or company files.
- Reporting on an any and all unusual conditions affecting client satisfaction.
- Suggesting workflow and process improvements to enhance efficiency.
- Receiving and handling calls regarding bind requests, endorsement requests, cancellations, reinstatements, inspections, missing information and quote submission for acceptability and process.
- Reviewing, organizing and forwarding information to other areas for handling or consideration.
Candidate Qualifications and Skills include:
Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university, business degree preferred; or three (3) to five (5) years of Agency or underwriting experience in Personal Lines including homeowners and other lines; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have knowledge of Florida Insurance Statutes and Florida Department of Insurance regulations and policies.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications to include Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook and Internet browser applications.
Certificates and Licenses: Must have an active 4-40 license; 2-20 license preferred.
