Reports To: Controller
Primary Function: Responsible for preparing quarterly and annual statements from underlying accounting records and specifically designed queries on a Statutory and GAAP basis. Able to apply skills to practically apply accounting, finance and reinsurance concepts and theories in preparing financial reports.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Prepare quarterly and annual statements from accounting and underwriting reports on a statutory and GAAP basis. Analyze data in terms of prior results and expectations, as well as, reconcile data to outside sources and expected outcomes.
- Review and analyze insurance system reports – review, investigate and research large and unusual items.
- Initiate and prepare state regulatory filings, generating financial information through liaison with IT staff.
- Perform financial analysis of premiums written, earned and loss experience and summarize in reports for senior management. Identify and communicate key indicators and trends to management.
- Reconcile and analyze general ledger accounts determining necessary adjustments.
- Calculate and prepare complex journal entries.
- Own and be accountable for various analytical and reporting responsibilities that include the ability to work within accounting and other departments.
Qualifications, Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Arts degree in Finance or Accounting. CPA/MBA a plus.
- Minimum 5-7 years Property and Casualty insurance accounting experience required.
- Advanced Excel and spreadsheet skills.
- Keen attention to detail, as well as, strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to be self-directed and adaptable in a quickly changing business environment.
