In the role of the Senior Claims Manager you are responsible for managing and leading a team of 31 individuals, with 6 direct reports and a coverage specialist reporting directly to you. This unit oversees the handling of our Environmental, Specialty, Emerging Risk, and Advertising Injury claims for both bodily injury and property damage. You are responsible for the handling and management of our medium to large exposure claims in this business segment, while executing strategic business objectives, operating within stated budgets, and assuring the highest customer satisfaction, quality productivity and good faith claims practices. It will be important to demonstrate your ability to manage a team country wide, while maintaining high level of engagement, collaborate with senior leaders, develop the team, improve operational effectiveness and champion creative solutions to complex problems. It is critical to have advanced knowledge of commercial property/casualty insurance with an emphasis on complex claims experience and litigation handling with a concentration in environmental, toxic tort law, specialty claims and emerging risks.

Responsibilities:
  • Supervise claims office operations to ensure that adequate resources and technical skills exist to process claims in accordance with company service standards and expectations.
  • Responsible for specialized strategic business planning for claims operations prepares, recommends and manages to the office`s annual budget to ensure appropriate resource allocations and expense levels. Lead and direct cross functional special projects.
  • Monitor and evaluate the claims reserve practices within the office and ensures that actual reserves are accurate and established promptly. Allocated expense is high, with the highest tier of authority. Variability of claims financial outcomes is significantly higher than average.
  • Maintains expert knowledge of multifaceted exposures and coaches front line managers on proper claims resolution strategies. May organize and direct catastrophic operations by securing resources and directing activities to effectively manage elevated claims volumes.
  • Actively develop, and engage claims employees. Focus staff on continuous improvement, looking for ways to build capabilities, engaging in the transformation, and driving organizational effectiveness.
  • Review and approve, within assigned authority limits, claim expenses and settlements that exceed the claims employees authority level appropriately refers claim expenses and settlements that exceed personal authority limits for approval.
  • Maintain awareness of existing and proposed legislation, court decisions and emerging trends in claims litigation to monitor the company`s compliance with state and federal legislation.

Qualifications:

Competencies typically acquired through a Bachelor`s degree or equivalent and 10+ years of progressively more responsible related work experience, with a majority of experience in a management capacity. Demonstrated ability to handle a large, multi-location claims organization; collaborate with senior leaders to create business plans that align to organizational strategies; deliver business results; develop the operation`s talent pool; engage talent, develop and implement plans that improve operational effectiveness; develop and champion innovative solutions to complex problems; and sponsor/promote change initiatives. Advanced knowledge of commercial property/casualty insurance, claims handling, insurance legal & regulatory environment, claims processes, applications/systems and procedures, medical terminology, and finance.

Location: Dover, NH preferred, but open to other locations.
