JOB SUMMARY:
This position is responsible for guiding the profitable growth and effective management of the General Liability and Umbrella/Excess Liability lines of business across all business units on a countrywide basis. This position will be involved in the build-out of our new policy rating and administration system, which will include the identification and implementation of enhanced pricing and predictive analytic factors. This position will also be involved as a subject matter expert and resource for heavy General Liability exposure accounts, in addition to developing, refining and delivering effective underwriting training across multiple business units. As the recognized subject matter expert for the General Liability and Umbrella/Excess Liability lines, this role will lead the evolution of our General Liability and Umbrella/Excess Liability product offerings through regular interactions and ongoing analysis in collaboration with multiple departments including Claims, Actuarial, Compliance, Legal and IS. This role will be the thought leader responsible for determining how the company achieves and maintains a profitable book of General Liability and Umbrella/Excess Liability business while differentiating our approach and product offering in order to build and retain a favorable portfolio of accounts.

Assesses competitor and market offerings, with focus on developing pricing and underwriting strategies that will support appetite expansion and new product development
Assesses current and future book of General Liability and Umbrella/Excess Liability business, to gain full understanding of pricing and loss trends in order to establish baseline pricing guidance and underwriting standards that will maintain line of business profitability while simultaneously driving meaningful written premium growth
Develops coverage forms and enhancements, including manuscript endorsement approaches, that support the business units in their pursuit of profitable account opportunities
Proactively leads and participates in the design and implementation of our newly established General Liability rating platform (GuideWire), with sharp focus on the critical rating and data elements necessary to enhancing pricing approaches as well as data collection and utilization for actuarial analysis
Delivers strong guidance as respects loss sensitive and guaranteed cost underwriting and pricing approaches across a broad spectrum of industries
Acts as the highest level General Liability and Umbrella/Excess Liability underwriting resource within the company, increasing overall underwriting efficacy across the company through mentoring and account referral activities
Provides Senior and Executive Management with timely analysis and recommendations as to General Liability and Umbrella/Excess Liability underwriting and pricing practices, including appetite expansion, new product offerings and emerging issues related to the line of business
Presents clear and timely professional communications internally and externally via phone; e-mail; written correspondence; face to face meetings
Works closely with Risk Control Unit to develop and enhance risk management techniques to assist customers with managing the cost of risk for the General Liability and Umbrella/Excess Liability lines of business; brings a forward looking approach to designing effective risk management and risk mitigation approaches
Works closely with Actuarial Unit to determine appropriate pricing approaches and methodologies at the book of business level, with occasional focus on complex individual risks on a referral basis
Works closely with Legal Department regarding manuscript endorsement wording as necessary
Works closely with Compliance to ensure state regulatory and individual risk filings are effectively completed on a timely and accurate basis
Works closely with Claims Department to ensure effective communications and delivery of intended coverages; collaborates in the pursuit and collection of loss and data elements from Third Party Administrators
Gains feedback from the Underwriting and Business Development Departments in order to identify market opportunities and broker needs; formulates strategies to address viable growth opportunities
Creates, refines and delivers training material and learning opportunities across all business units
Represents the company at various conferences, conventions and seminars at the direction of SNCC Management
Provides advice and counsel to other underwriters; may be involved in training and supervision of underwriting staff

Technical Skills – possesses the necessary advanced thought processes to appropriately understand and analyze market and coverage trends, with a view toward structuring General Liability and Umbrella/Excess Liability pricing and coverage in an optimal way to secure the business while positioning SNCC for sustainable long-term profitability
Relationship Building and Customer Service – works across all segments of SNCC and the brokerage community to effectively impact General Liability and Umbrella/Excess Liability results; embraces the opportunity to pursue and discuss market opportunities with producers and insured’s alike, emphasizing the SNCC value proposition
Negotiating Skills – is able to influence others in the interest of driving favorable outcomes for SNCC while safeguarding relationships in the process; builds trust and commitment
Teamwork – develops and maintains strong working relationships internally and externally; fosters a team environment by demonstrating leadership and becoming a trusted advisor
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum BA/BS or equivalent with extensive General Liability and Umbrella/Excess Liability underwriting and sales experience; prefer minimum 7 years of General Liability and Umbrella/Excess Liability product management experience spanning multiple program structures including loss sensitive, guaranteed cost and non-admitted programs
Strong familiarity with General Liability and Umbrella/Excess Liability coverage forms, manuscript coverage language and industry resources utilized to effectively manage the product line on a countrywide basis
Strong understanding of General Liability and Umbrella/Excess Liability rating techniques, including loss rating, guaranteed cost ratemaking processes and IS requirements to construct and maintain effective rating and policy issuance systems
A record of consistently high performance and achievement over career desired
Leadership capabilities, superior organizational skills, communication, coaching and mentoring skills are highly desired
Business acumen, including the ability to win using data, is critical
CPCU designation a plus
