Underwriting Assistant

General Description:

This position will provide support to the Surety Underwriting Team. The position will have contact with underwriters, agents and clients and assist in inputting new bond transactions, endorsements and supporting surety underwriting information management, updating agency information, and providing general office administrative functions as needed.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Process Surety business through review and preparation of bonds submitted for billing including data entry into company system.
  • Prepare and execute new bonds, riders and renewals including cancellations, endorsements and reinstatements as needed.
  • Provide excellent service to internal and external customers and assist agents and clients with inquiries and questions.
  • Retrieve information using various systems to prepare and verify documents for accuracy prior to entering into systems.
  • Assist Accounting with billing, premium and commission discrepancies upon request.
  • Assist with application of payments as needed.
  • Assist with preparation, management and tracking of job status inquiries for issued bonds.
  • Run Credit Reports for new and existing accounts
  • Set up and organize account files for new submissions
  • File Bid results as necessary
  • Assist with review and audit of agents bond and power of attorney logs
  • Assist with review and preparation of bond renewals
  • Scan, log and file all original Indemnity Agreements
  • Apply independent judgment to complete complex or specialized assignments/tasks working within defined policies and procedures to optimize planned business results.
  • Process, coordinate and/or validate data and documents to ensure quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Provide administrative support as needed.
  • Perform additional projects as requested.

Qualifications: 

  • High School Diploma and a minimum of 3 years related customer service or office support experience.
  • Learns quickly and demonstrates an open attitude when facing new problems, processes, or procedures, and takes advantage of diverse sources of information to solve problems.
  • Able to work effectively in a diverse team environment as well as independently.
  • Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision.
  • Able to multi-task and prioritize work.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to complete tasks and assignments in a high volume work environment.
  • Strong PC skills, specifically Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
