General Purpose of the Position:
The Senior Accountant II will be responsible for monthly accounting activities, including providing financial information to management; enter and substantiate financial transactions, prepare journal entries, month-end, quarter-end and year-end close. Demonstrate expert knowledge of accounting principles and familiarity with GAAP and/or STAT accounting, including reinsurance accounting. Provide assistance and lead special accounting projects and implementations. Ensure the integrity of the accounting information for compliance and quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare quarterly and annual statutory financial statements accordingly to schedule
Complete month end, quarter-end and year-end closing according to schedule
Perform variance analyses and prepare account reconciliations
Prepare journals entries related to reinsurance contracts and settlements
Prepare journals entries related to investment transactions
Prepare premium tax returns and all related settlements
Analyzing complex financial reports and records
Documenting and monitoring internal controls in support of Audit and SOX compliance
Communicate with co-workers, management, clients, and others in a courteous and professional manner
Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures, and instructions
Coordinate more complex accounting projects and initiatives with other accountants
Mentoring and training other accountants
Assists in providing feedback and documentation of significant variances of monthly financials

Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent experience
5+ years insurance industry experience preferred
Computer Equipment and Software Requirements:
Advanced Windows Microsoft products
Proficiency in Excel
