Job Description
We are seeking a collaborative, efficient and forward-thinking leader who can harness the existing strengths of the account managers in the Group Benefits division to drive profitable growth while keeping renewal business a priority. In addition to team management, this leader will also collaborate with the Group Benefits Leadership Team on strategic projects and initiatives. Strong management, relationship, and development skills are essential to the success of this individual and the department as a whole. Candidate must be a team player and will report to the Vice President of Group Benefits Operations.


Responsibilities of the Small / Middle Market Sales Manager, Group Benefits

  • Manage and lead the account managers in the small and middle market (Under 100 lives) segments of the Group Benefits Division
  • Along with the leadership team, develop and oversee the execution of the Group Benefits strategy to ensure the division achieves its overall objectives in terms of profitability, and growth
  • Maintain strong broker and client relationships, while identifying opportunities to build broader strategic alliances
  • Collaborate with the Babb, Inc. divisions to share knowledge and identify mutually beneficial business opportunities
  • Ensures that all staff workloads are optimized while also evaluating the quality and  quantity of all work produced.
  • Along with the leadership team, directs the preparation of the annual budget for the Board of Directors, and monitors the budget during the year to ensure the division’s performance meets requirements
  • Provides leadership to staff by leading organizational change, developing and empowering staff, cultivating relationships, and putting staff in a position to succeed and meet career goals, while also achieving organizational goals
  • Leads and participates on project and key initiative teams
  • Responsible for carrier relationships and appointments.
  • Administers personnel policies, oversees performance evaluations and salary recommendations, interviews prospective employees, hires, terminates and promotes employees as deemed appropriate with the assistance of Human Resources. Performs other administrative and operational responsibilities as required or assigned by the Board of Directors

Requirements of the Small/Middle Market Manager, Group Benefits

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university
  • Current PA Life, Accident and Health Insurance License
  • Three to five years’ management experience
  • ACA Compliance experience
  • Experience working with Captives (Preferred)
  • NAHU Health Care Reform Certification or equivalent (Preferred) 
  • Human Resources background preferred (CEBS, PHR, SPHR, CP, SCP)
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office with an ability to become familiar with firm-specific programs (Applied Epic).
  • A proven track record for managing profit & loss, driving results and growing books of business that perform well over the long-term
  • Professional presence and ability to present effectively to a wide range of audiences, including senior management and clients
  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to evaluate and communicate quantifiable data to support underwriting decisions and business recommendations, while keeping a
    constant pulse on emerging trends
  • Ability to foster a collaborative environment
  • Superior written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrates high self-awareness—seeks and embraces feedback with resiliency
  • Ability to translate vision into concrete business plans and strategies
  • Proven track record of coaching, mentoring and providing career development direction to direct reports, while also being a good listener

  • Pass pre-employment criminal background check and drug screening
