Senior Underwriter ( Management Liability )

MSIG insures large multinational and domestic companies, and offers comprehensive global insurance programs.  Our US subsidiary, Mitsui Sumitomo Marine Management (MSMM), currently has an opportunity available for a Senior Underwriter (Management Liability) in our NYC office.

Summary Underwrite profitable book of D&O, EPL, and Fiduciary Management Liability and Commercial Crime business for Private Companies in accordance with Corporate goals.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Selects, underwrites and manages a portfolio of profitable Management Liability lines of business including D&O, EPL, Fiduciary and Commercial Crime within delegated underwriting authority. 
  • Reviews applications and financial requirements to determine acceptability of risk in accordance with Company guidelines and standards. Perform all aspects of the underwriting process and due diligence including review and analysis of financial documents, capital market information, securities offering memoranda, current litigation trends and individual risk factors. Applies appropriate pricing techniques according to company filings and state/bureau conformance.
  • Conduct financial and business diligence including industry analysis, competitive position, growth prospects, and capital markets position on potential customers in multiple industries. 
     
  • Monitors underwriting results, premium and loss trends within assigned book of business.
  • Deliver quality service to brokers and customers within established service metrics for new, renewal and interim requests. Develop and cultivate new and existing broker and customer relationships in assigned territory. Work with brokers and clients to create customized insurance solutions. Source new business opportunities through a strong broker and client network. 
  • Prepares or analyzes information on adverse underwriting decisions, rate appeals, underwriting requirements, status and declinations in order to drive results within the assigned territory.
  • Document accounts in accordance with regulatory and internal underwriting guidelines.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university required.
  • 5+ years of related Management Liability underwriting experience required.
  • CPCU or insurance related courses preferred

Language

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages.

Reasoning

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Computer

Excellent computer skills including knowledge of Internet software; Excel, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and the ability to learn and work with miscellaneous insurance-related applications.

Other Qualifications Required:

Advanced insurance education preferred

Other Skills and Abilities Required:

Up to 20% same day and overnight travel
