Job Summary

The Product Manager is responsible for all development, pricing, rollout, and management of products within a group of assigned states. This role is also responsible for underwriting profitability and controlled premium growth based on annual objectives. The Product Manager will have demonstrable ability to work with and influence stakeholders across the organization, including Sales, Claims, IT, Compliance, Customer Service and Finance.    

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage strategies to open, penetrate or expand markets for our non-standard auto product
  • Determine profitable and salable price levels and program construction for given states
  • Responsible for extraction and analysis of statistical data for decision-making purposes
  • Identifies product issues and opportunities and performs and / or oversees the analytical work necessary to complete national, group, state, or product level analyses
  • Consult on corporate objectives and resolve business problems associated with state programs
  • Drive sales and marketing activities within assigned states
  • Ensure compliance with state laws and regulations relative to rate, rule and form filings
  • Obtain regulatory approval for filings
  • Responsible for policy form and endorsement construction and ancillary form construction (cancellation notices, applications for insurance, etc.)
  • Responsible for ongoing modifications to forms, agency manuals, product announcements, etc.
  • Create and maintain a competitive library
  • Must interact with and influence all areas of organization including IT, Claims, Underwriting, Executive and Marketing to implement new products or product revisions
  • Responsible for all aspects of implementation, including state filings and interaction with third party vendors
  • Must interact and influence external constituents such as agents, regulators and vendors

Job Qualifications

Formal Education & Certification

Undergraduate College Degree in Business, Mathematics, Statistics or related fields; Master’s Degree preferred.  Professional designations a plus.

Knowledge & Experience

  • Five-plus years of auto insurance product development/management experience
  • General insurance background preferred, including significant knowledge of filing laws, actuarial principles, rate structures and policy form construction
  • Should possess a mastery of product marketing, pricing and statistical concepts

Skills & Competencies

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated team building and coordination skills
  • Advanced analytical and spreadsheet skills, including current spreadsheet, database, and word processing software such as Access, Excel, Word, Insight, and other software that is deployed by the Company to support the Product Management functions.
