Underwriter - Commercial Lines

Member Insurance Agency is a 46 year old national commercial insurance agency and the largest agency in the country in the retail hardware/building materials dealers' industry segment.  We are endorsed by 2 of the largest co-ops in this industry.  We offer a complete line of commercial insurance products to our market.  Our clients can choose from property, general liability, business auto, workers' compensation, builders' risk, flood and many other forms of commercial coverage's based on their needs and budget.

We are currently seeking an experienced Commercial Lines Underwriter to work in our Cornelius, NC office. 

The Commercial Lines Underwriter contributes to the success of the underwriting goals as well as corporate goals relating to growth, profitability, renewal retention, service, and producer/insured management.  This individual’s primary responsibilities is to review, evaluate and quote new business submissions. This position will be required to perform detailed analysis, identify trends or weaknesses, and take appropriate corrective action when necessary.  This individual will perform functions to evaluate profit and loss potential on all new prospective clients as well as understand and work within individual state regulations, carrier guidelines, and within agency objectives. 

The successful candidate will possess a strong insurance background with negotiation skills and relationship management experience.  If you have the following qualifications, we are looking to speak to you!

• Minimum of 5 years P&C – multiline experience preferred
• Designation of either: Risk Management, Associates in Underwriting, CIC, CPCU or equivalent preferred
• Proficient in Microsoft Office environment
• Experience with agency management systems (e.g. Applied/Epic)
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Strong negotiation skills
• Strong knowledge of underwriting philosophy
