Ullico Inc. is actively recruiting an Underwriting Technical Assistant for our Property & Casualty Department located in our Silver Spring, MD office.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  Incumbent may perform any or all of the following:

  1. Provide technical assistance to the underwriting department for renewal accounts and new business proposals as needed, which includes:
    1. Scheduling and monitoring renewal accounts in underwriting systems on a monthly basis and as requested by underwriters
    2. Preparing and distributing pre-renewal data request letters monthly based on renewal schedule
    3. Monitoring and updating contact information for current policyholders on underwriting systems
    4. Obtaining and entering pre-renewal analysis data in order to update underwriting systems.
    5. Running system data reports for analysis by underwriters
    6. Following up on suspense/diary items; drafting letters and performing other administrative support functions as appropriate
  2. Coordinate the decision making process for evidence of insurability applications on Insureds policies which includes:
    1. Receiving and tracking applications from policyholders
    2. Reviewing applications for completeness
    3. Submitting applications to underwriter with pertinent information to underwrite accounts
    4. Referring complex issues related to applications to appropriate underwriter or direct Supervisor
    5. Communicating with Insurance Producers for needed information to complete the pre-underwriting requirements
    6. Conducting research by searching various systems for data to be used in the underwriting process.  Compiling such information and including data in underwriting file.
  3. Follow up with Insurance Producers for late payments and compliance documents as required.
  4. Perform other job related duties as required.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma plus two years of financial, accounting or economics college-level coursework required.
  • Over two years of office experience required; knowledge of underwriting principles is preferred.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in and demonstrated knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and email applications required.  Must take Company Excel test.
  • Demonstrated organizational, analysis, data comparison, detail-oriented and follow-up skills required.
  • Demonstrated oral and written communication skills required.
