Claims Adjuster Senior - Inside desk TN

Job Purpose

Assures claims are fairly and accurately investigated and evaluated in accordance with established standards of quality and timeliness. This position is responsible for the coverage and damages analysis of property claims which includes the ability to negotiate and complete settlements fairly and equitably with all parties.

Essential Job Functions

1. Examines claim forms and other records to determine insurance coverage
2. Responsible for all phases of property claims adjusting
3. Approving and adjusting estimates of damage and loss amounts
4. Interviews, telephones, or corresponds with claimant and witnesses; consults police and hospital records; and inspects property damage to determine extent of company's liability, varying method of investigation according to type of insurance
5. Estimates costs of repair, replacement, or compensation
6. Prepares report of findings and negotiates settlement with claimant
7. Recommends litigation by legal department and attends litigation hearings
8. Revises case reserves in assigned claims files to cover probable costs
9. Assists in preparing loss experience report to help determine profitability and calculate adequate future rates

Job Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree or 5 years of prior work experience as an inside desk adjuster, or some combination thereof; residential homeowners experience preferred.
2. Minimum 5 years claims experience required; previous property and casualty insurance experience preferred
3. Clear understanding of coverage issues including policy provisions related to exclusions and endorsements
4. Flexibility of a work schedule, with the ability to work 12-hour days when required as part of major catastrophe claims
5. Continued pursuit of general insurance-related courses/designations also preferred
6. Demonstrated strong interpersonal, in progressively more complex/technical claims positions
7. Experienced in use of computer based estimating software and has the ability to interpret estimates using unit pricing
8. Working knowledge of home structures
