Claims Assistant - Workers' Compensation

The Black Car Fund provides workers’ compensation insurance, safety education and related benefits to drivers who operate in the state of New York and are affiliated with companies who are The Fund’s Member Bases.

We are currently seeking an experienced workers' compensation Claims Assistant with a high level of customer service skills to join our team.

The selected candidates will be required to perform the following responsibilities as vital members of our Claims Team:

• Answer the Claims Support phone line and respond to general and some specific inquiries concerning Claims matters, including pre-screening potential new claimants.
• Set up files for new claims that consist of interviewing claimants and gathering accident information, obtaining documents, faxing and scanning documents, etc.
• Assist Claims Adjuster with managing active claims by following up on phone calls, filing forms electronically (EDI) and by postal mail with the state’s Workers’ Compensation Board (WCB) timely, managing bills, document management such as filing, identifying and recommending closing stale cases, and any other areas where an adjuster requires assistance in managing their claims.
• Along with the Claims Adjusters, meet daily reporting deadlines
• Candidate must be willing to participate in education, training and team building exercises provided by the company in order to enhance knowledge, skills and rapport as a member of the organization.

Education and Training:

• As stated above, successful candidate must be willing to actively participate in training and education related to the position and as well as core values when provided by company.

Qualifications

• College Degree and or level of experience is preferred
• Experience as an assistant with critical duties is preferred

Required Skills

• Experience as a workers' compensation Claims Assistant is highly preferred
• Excellent customer service
• Ability to set and prioritize daily tasks independently and complete daily goals
• Strong communication skills
• Proficient in the use of Windows operating system and Microsoft Office software such as, MS Word
• Takes initiative and is adaptable to change
• Ability to take direction from all levels of management and work well with a team and independently
