Garage Underwriter

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s Degree, or equivalent industry experience and training.
• Knowledge in lines of commercial insurance underwriting including Garage and/or Commercial Auto.
• AU or related Designation

RESPONSIBILITIES

Underwriters are curious, creative problem solvers who work with our brokers to create appropriately priced policies to insure their customers' risks. Successful underwriters are skilled in negotiating and collaborating with our brokers to ensure proper risk-selection and pricing. 

Job duties include:

1. Accept, modify, or reject risks in accordance within Company guidelines and assigned authority level.
2. Develop and maintain favorable business relations with brokers including periodic visits.
3. Review claims and loss information on individual risks and takes the appropriate action.
4. Have a clear understanding of company’s underwriting strategy and guidelines including coverages, hazards, loss trends and competition.
5. Select and write new and renewal accounts to achieve profit and production goals.
6. Approve risks handled by less experienced underwriters up to the level of assigned authority and act as a resource to them.
