In this role you will lead and manage legal staff operations for the Indianapolis Law Office providing oversight and direction for preparation of lawsuit for settlement and/or trial.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Will receive and assign litigation files to the appropriate level of attorney in the office and will do all tasks necessary to prepare cases for mediation, pretrial, trial and post-trial resolution,  as well as be responsible for the operation of the House Counsel office to which they are assigned.

2. Responsible for monitoring the progress and strategy of the CARE Legal Specialists and Clerical personnel in the office; this position will conduct monthly audits and performance coaching..

3. Maintain all the requirements for the practice of law in the state in which he or she is admitted to practice.

 

4. Carry out the policies, procedures and protocols of State Auto House Counsel in accordance with the Case Handling Guidelines and any other directive issued by Corporate Claims Counsel.

5. May be called upon to perform additional duties as directed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Experience/Education  

An attorney licensed to practice in the state of Indiana.  A minimum of 7 years of litigation and managerial experience required. Previous in-house counsel experience preferred.  Required to have experience in the preparation for trial and in the trying of cases involving first and third party claims against insurance companies or their insureds and have some experience in preparing appeals.

Communication and Collaboration Skills

Ability to write simple, as well as highly complex and technical memos, letters, analysis and reports.  This person will also have the ability to write pretrial, trial, post trial and appellate materials. Ability to communicate and explain both simple and complex materials to Company personnel, opposing counsel, judges and juries, either individually or in groups.

Problem Solving  

This position will require the individual to interpret complex requirements/issues and work independently. The individual must be able to identify and implement key opportunities while researching potential solutions.
