Job Description
We are seeking a collaborative, efficient and forward-thinking leader who can harness the existing strengths of the Property & Casualty division to drive profitable growth while keeping renewal business a priority. In addition to overall team management and leadership, this leader will also own strategic projects and initiatives. Strong management, relationship, and development skills are essential to the success of this individual and the department.
Responsibilities of the Vice President of Operations, P&C Division
- Manage and lead the Pittsburgh Property & Casualty Division
- Develop and oversee the execution of the P&C strategy to ensure the division achieves its overall objectives in terms of profitability, risk tolerance and growth
- Maintain strong broker and client relationships, while identifying opportunities to build broader strategic alliances
- Collaborate with the Babb, Inc. leadership team to share knowledge and identify mutually beneficial business opportunities
- Ensures that all staff workloads are optimized while also evaluating the quality and quantity of all work produced. Oversight of E&O and Babb’s Quality Control Program.
- Oversees the preparation of all management reports required by the Board of Directors and outside organizations
- Develops and communicates with Department of Insurance representatives. Oversees the preparation of special filings for Department of Insurance approval as directed by the Board of Directors. Communicates with member companies, trade associations, local officials and insureds on appropriate matters
- Directs the preparation of the annual budget for the Board of Directors, and monitors the budget during the year to ensure the division’s performance meets requirements
- Provides leadership to staff by leading organizational change, developing and empowering staff, cultivating relationships, and putting staff in a position to succeed and meet career goals, while also achieving organizational goals
- Leads and participates on project and key initiative teams
- Administers personnel policies, oversees performance evaluations and salary recommendations, interviews prospective employees, hires, terminates and promotes employees as deemed appropriate with the assistance of Human Resources. Performs other administrative and operational responsibilities as required or assigned by the Board of Directors
Requirements of the Vice President of Operations, P&C Division
· Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university
· A minimum of 7-10 years’ management experience with a P&C organization
· Experience in residual and retail market operations and procedures
· Knowledge of underwriting, accounting, claims, reinsurance and technology
· One or more insurance designations preferred (CPCU, AIM, Surplus Lines)
· A proven track record for managing profit & loss, driving results and growing books of business that perform well over the long-term
· Professional presence and ability to present effectively to a wide range of audiences, including senior management and clients
· Strong analytical skills and the ability to evaluate and communicate quantifiable data to support underwriting decisions and business recommendations, while keeping a constant pulse on emerging trends
· Ability to foster a collaborative environment
· Superior written and oral communication skills
· Demonstrates high self-awareness—seeks and embraces feedback with resiliency
· Ability to translate vision into concrete business plans and strategies
· Proven track record of coaching, mentoring and providing career development direction to direct reports, while also being a good listener
