We are seeking a Corporate Casualty Claim Manager in our Buffalo, NY Corporate headquarters.  The reporting relationship is to the Vice President – Claim Operations.  The Corporate Casualty Claim Manager is responsible for company level oversight of litigation and casualty claim operations as well as management of a direct report staff composed of a Litigation Manager, Casualty Claim Supervisor, Claim Attorney, and Home Office Claim Examiner.

The Corporate Casualty Claim Manager role entails responsibility for developing, recommending and implementing policies, procedures and controls for the handling of casualty and litigated claims company wide.  Objectives include the equitable discharge of policyholders’ liabilities in a timely and efficient manner while mitigating the impact of casualty claims on the combined ratio, establishing sound case reserving practices, allocated loss adjustment and legal expense control.  Additional responsibilities include the training and development of claim professionals, managing the relationship with our retained counsel panel, and working closely with our reinsurance partners.

The Corporate Casualty Claim Manager interacts extensively with our external business partners and vendors and internally with other departments including underwriting, product management, and finance.  This position often represents the Claim Department in its relationships with agents, policyholders, the legal and judicial community, government agencies and other entities as required.

Qualified candidates will possess a 4 year bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.  A graduate degree, Juris Doctorate or professional designations are desirable.   High level of casualty claim technical expertise, legal knowledge, and insurance coverage analysis.  10+ years of casualty and litigated claim management experience is required.  Experience with complex and high exposure automobile, general liability, construction accident and construction defects litigation, product liability, employment practices liability, and environmental claims.  Proven competencies in leadership, organizational development, training, and performance management.
