GENERAL SUMMARY:

In this role you will oversee the CARE Teams compliance with both federal and state statutes and regulations, as well as insurance department rules and regulations. You will respond to insurance department inquiries and complaints by insureds and by third parties. The position works with other organizations and teams within State Auto to help ensure CARE is in compliance with applicable laws, rules, regulations, and established standards of conduct.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assists in the identification and evaluation of compliance related risks.
2. Develops and implements compliance and reporting guidelines for the CARE team and effectively communicates those guidelines to the team.
3. Provides independent review and monitoring to ensure compliance issues are being identified, evaluated, satisfied and/or remediated.
4. Serves as subject matter expert in the areas of insurance regulation and market conduct and acts as managing coordinator of non-financial insurance department examinations, including communicating results and corrective action plans.
5. Performs research and maintains a broad external awareness of emerging issues, governmental mandates and compliance trends for communication and coordination within CARE Division.
6. Responsible for Regulatory and Medicare reporting and compliance.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:

1. Some college, Bachelor Degree in a related field strongly preferred.
2. J.D. and prior experience as a practicing attorney preferred
3. In depth knowledge of compliance regulations and guidance with an emphasis on the P&C Industry
4. Minimum of 7 years of experience in a compliance role, or equivalent experience in a closely related field together with a minimum of 5 years focusing on compliance matters
5. Minimum of 5 years of management experience.

Communication and Collaboration Skills:

Ability to effectively communicate (both verbal and written) critically important.  Will interact with various levels of management, including executives, and external regulators.  Strong collaborative and persuasive skills necessary, with an ability to build relationships both within CARE and across the organization.
  
Problem Solving:

Ability to work with others to identify problems, collect pertinent data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions is essential.  Ability to interpret information, learn new concepts and tasks, develop new techniques, comprehend complex situations, and apply logical thinking and sound judgment to arrive at solutions to problems is necessary.
