LOSS CONTROL SPECIALIST

Merchants Insurance Group is searching for a talented and energetic Loss Control Specialist to join our Western Regional Office located in our Buffalo, NY location.

The Loss Control Specialist position requires a 4-Year Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience.  Safety Management certifications are required.  5 years’ experience in loss control or related fields.  The ability to travel for approximately 80% of the work week and a valid driver’s license is required.  

The primary responsibility of this position is to provide information necessary to the underwriting department for the proper underwriting of risks. This information is obtained through surveys of insureds' or prospective insureds' properties and/or operations. The position requires appraising and evaluating the hazards and exposures of commercial accounts, and making recommendations where needed to improve conditions, thereby eliminating or controlling these hazards. Serve as a technical resource to the office team by providing accurate, technical information on a timely basis.

This position will also manage vendors to ensure quality and expense control issues, as well as conducting quality reviews on vendors.  The Loss Control Specialist will provide underwriting & marketing support on new classes, products, underwriting guidelines, creating underwriting library documents and training materials on exposures/controls and emerging issues. 

Ideal candidate must possess excellent knowledge of state/federal codes, regulations, liability exposures and contracts. Working knowledge of Loss Control Management Systems, RCI or similar systems, and the ability to work with assigned hardware utilizing the corporate procedures in place for maximum utilization of the system.  Apply online at: www.merchantsgroup.com.
