Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Reviews applications, correspondence, records, and reports to select policies for processing, as stated in the underwriting guidelines.
- Calculates standard rates and premium charges by using approved formulas and tables.
- Reviews and issues policies within authority level.
- Provides customer service to brokers and insureds by handling phone requests for general instructions and duties within authority level.
- Routes correspondence and other matters that are beyond assigned authority to underwriter for evaluation.
- Compiles and summarizes pertinent data onto underwriting worksheets.
- Consults manuals to determine rate classifications, performs rating calculations, and assigns rates to pending applications.
- Enters and maintains data in computer system.
- Sets up and maintains policy-renewal system.
Education, Requirements & Competencies
- Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university preferred; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Property and Casualty Producers license or pursuit thereof required. Willing to complete requirements of the RPLU or CPCU designation.
- Ability to use Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Internet Explorer. Ability to learn the use of new software applications as required. Employee will be required to become proficient in the use and understanding of the Company's core underwriting operating system.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.
