POSITION SUMMARY

Meet or exceed small commercial new business objectives with our independent agency distribution partners.  Participate in ensuring planned premium retention as needed.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Manage a territory of select, independent agents.  The Berkley Mid-Atlantic Group strives to build strong, deep relationships with a limited number of agencies in each geography. 
  • Build and maintain proactive agency relationships to increase production in small commercial. 
  • Cultivate and underwrite new business opportunities through personal meetings (proactive, planned calls) with agents
  • Grow premium volume in assigned territory through existing relationships as well as new agency relationships
  • Proactively develop marketing plans and new business generation opportunities with partnered agencies
  • Proactively seek competitor intelligence and pricing in assigned territory and make recommendations to ensure BMAG’s product offering continues to be relevant and differentiated in the market
  • Evaluate prospective profitability of potential business submissions in agents’ offices and make justifiable pre-qualification decisions
  • Underwrite agency submissions and deliver win-win outcomes for BMAG and our agency partners
  • Train, and advocate for BMAG agency collaboration tools like our quote systems, agency portal and online endorsement capabilities
  • Other duties as required

 

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • Prefer 3-5 years of experience Small Commercial Underwriting and Sales.
  • Willingness to travel 2-3 days each week as territory requires; Typical week would include 3 days in office underwriting and 2 days traveling territory 
  • Demonstrated ability to influence internal and external customers
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and build a book of business
  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels of employees and management
