Under general supervision, coordinates and supervises claims handling activities and operations within a specified unit. Assists in the direction of the claims branch to minimize indemnity and expense impact, to ensure appropriate reserve levels, and to implement claims objectives, policies and procedures. Supervise the professional staff in the handling of property claims within specified unit by assigning new and transferred losses to staff, reviewing initial investigations, evaluations, demands, authority for settlement, reserve recommendations, etc., providing guidance and recommending action plans.
Assists in the development of basic objectives, procedures and operations of the branch; analyzes operating results relative to established guidelines and takes appropriate action to improve performance and productivity. Monitors and reviews unit files on diary system in order to ensure adherence to Company policies and procedures. Screens files for possible coverage problems, fraudulent or inflated claims or questionable activity and transfers files to appropriate department for further investigation as needed. Develops and recommends specific reserves, settlement and expense authority level for subordinates; may extend settlement authority limits to Property Claims Specialists.
Represents the Company and branch in relationships with consumers, government agencies, independent vendors and agents. May perform any one or all of the duties of subordinates and refers extremely complex claims to appropriate superior. Maintains production records and prepares reports for management regarding unit operations, production and expenses as necessary. May coordinate work and payment for use of independent contractors for investigative purposes.
Keeps abreast of current Company policy, claims developments, and procedural changes and informs subordinates as necessary.
Monitors work product and provides continued instruction and direction to a staff of Property Claims Specialists. Supervisory responsibility including providing performance feedback, conducting disciplinary actions, ensuring employee communications, and training.
Required Education: Completion of an undergraduate 4-year program and/or completion of an in-house training program.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years related Company experience.
