POSITION SUMMARY

Under general supervision, conducts physical audits of policyholder operations and business records to determine the proper classifications and exposures to be used in determining the policy final earned premium.  Audits will be conducted on worker’s compensation, general liability, BOP, and garage liability policies.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage and travel an assigned territory in the process of conducting physical audits of policyholder operations and business records.
  • Examine policyholder business operations and records including payroll reports, federal and state tax reports, general ledger and income statement to determine the business classification and exposures in compliance with policy contract and regulatory/company manual rules.
  • Prepare final audit report, in compliance with BMAG Premium Audit Department standards, to be used in processing the final earned premium on a policy.
  • Review the final audit report with the policyholders and provides recommendations on maintaining adequate business records for future premium audits.
  • Adhere to department production and time service standards and operating procedures.
  • Communicate with underwriting any operational, classification and large exposure changes or any facts that may affect the insurability of an account.
  • Conduct pre-audit surveys at the underwriter's request.
  • Review the claims information portion of the work assignment and report within the audit any discrepancies regarding the claimants or classifications.
  • Communicate with policyholders, agents and underwriters regarding audit questions and the resolution of disputes.
  • Keep informed of company policy, department procedure and regulatory/bureau requirements that may affect an audit.  Maintain up to date insurance audit manuals and related material.
  • Keep the Premium Audit Manager informed verbally and in writing of activities and problems within assigned area of responsibility; refers matters beyond limits of authority and expertise to Manager for direction.
  • Performs other related duties as required or requested.

 REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be self-motivated and willing to take initiative in all assigned tasks and responsibilities.
  • Must possess strong analytical and reasoning skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work and interact with individuals at all levels within the organization.
  • Ability to act decisively to address and resolve system issues.
  • Able to organize and manage user/steering group meetings.
  • Demonstrable project leadership experience is required. 
  • Proven systems testing experience. 
  • Technically proficient with the MS Office 2013 suite of applications (Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Word). 
  • Experience conducting user training sessions.
  • Must be able to create and maintain system and workflow process documentation

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Differentiating:

Maintains good agency and policyholder relationships, explaining company procedures and works to resolve disputes.

Coordinates with Premium Audit Manager, Team Leader, Field Audit Staff, and Outside Vendors to expedite customer service on account problems or disputed premiums, when necessary.  Coordinates activities with other BMAG departments including underwriting, loss control, collections, billing, and claims.

Consults with State Insurance Departments and Regulatory Agencies as necessary.

Highly desired:

Education equivalent to graduation from college. 

5 or more years of premium audit experience.

Possesses a valid driver's license.

Demonstrates familiarity with PC applications. 

Demonstrates good verbal and written communication skills.

Well organized and efficient with the ability to work independently and with others.

Attention to Detail - Ability to review and proofread works for accuracy and completes specific aspects of assignments, as directed.  Concentrates on tasks at hand, even in distracting work environments.

Interpersonal - Ability to deal openly and honestly with internal and external customers while building credibility and maintaining trust. 

Accountability - Ability to be held accountable for individual, and where appropriate, team decisions, actions, and results.

Communication - Ability to present ideas and information in a clear, concise, organized and diplomatic manner; listen to others to respond effectively to ideas and questions.

TRAVEL:

Must be able to travel as required.  Travel is variable in frequency and duration.
