JOB DESCRIPTION

 

POSITION:  Claims Specialist II- General Liability

DEPARTMENT:  Claims
REPORT TO:  Director of Claims

RESPONSIBILITES:

  • Proactive management of Program claims which are handled through TPA’s and insurers
  • Responsible for tracking claim trends and providing feedback to NSM Claims Dept and other depts
  • Be a resource for agents/brokers/insureds by responding to inquiries or questions on coverage, claim status, and claim handling
  • Daily oversight and supervision of TPA’s which includes all aspects of claims handling
  • Participate in periodic file reviews, and visit TPA’s to discuss files and problem issues and deliver training
  • Conduct file audits to monitor TPA’s compliance with Account Instructions, to ensure proper claims handling
  • Create monthly loss reports for assigned Programs, and other reports as requested
  • Provide status to Underwriters on claims prior to policy renewal, or when requested
  • Forward new losses to TPA’s or insurers, as needed
  • Provide support, as requested, within the Claims Dept, and sometimes for the benefit of other depts
  • Act as a mentor and trainer for certain Claims Dept workers, and for other departments, and at TPA’s

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 2+ years of recent Liability claims adjuster experience
  • Strong technical knowledge of Liability claims and civil litigation in multiple States
  • Strong knowledge of steps necessary to move Liability claim files to conclusion
  • Ability to recognize when a Liability claim file or its related litigation is not being handled correctly
  • Willingness and ability to learn, and apply knowledge in areas of Liability claims, Property claims, Workers Compensation claims, Subrogation matters, civil litigation issues, and other related areas
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel;  and familiarity with PowerPoint
  • Strong supervisory skills; including the ability to formulate and deliver directives (both written and verbal) to the adjusters and supervisors at the TPA’s in furtherance of better overall results
  • Ability to train claims adjusters and other staff at the TPA’s
  • Must be a team-player, and must work well within the Claims Dept team, and within NSM
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 20% of each month
