This individual must enjoy the challenge of applying advanced mathematical theory to complete meaningful research for the workers compensation insurance industry.This is a potentially rewarding opportunity for a highly trained and motivated actuary who wants to conduct innovative and challenging research in an environment that is professionally demanding yet collegial. NCCI has the advantage of having the nation's largest database of workers compensation information.The ideal candidate will be proficient in the advanced concepts of actuarial science, particularly in the areas of pricing and applied research. This individual would have experience in developing and exploring enhanced analytical solutions to extract additional insight from data and to enhance methodologies.Work Experience:Relevant work experience should be in research, preferably including advanced analytic work.* Experience with advanced statistical analysis and its application in insurance* Demonstrated innovative application of quantitative techniques and technology to enhance core business processes* Independent research that demonstrated superlative mathematical skills* Experience working in a cross functional and collaborative environmentPrimary Duties and Responsibilities:* Perform and manage a variety of advanced research projects-sometimes simultaneously* Primary projects will include the enhancement of current actuarial techniques and the development and vetting of the next generation of actuarial methodologies* Participate in the development and training of staff and provide direction and assistance on an ongoing basis to ensure group has knowledge and technical experience* Produce repeatable high quality work by adhering to established guidelines. This includes ensuring the creation of appropriate documentation and coordination of peer review efforts* Clearly present results of sophisticated analyses to technical and non-technical audiences* Apply mathematical expertise independentlyQualifications:* Thorough understanding of actuarial and mathematical theory, and strong affinity for statistical techniques* Strong computer and programming skillso Ability to write and evaluate technical and intricate programso Experience with large volumes of datao Experience with programming languages commonly used in data analyses (e.g., R, SAS, SQL)* Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present data visuallyRequired Education, Skills, and Experience:* FCAS* Eight years of actuarial experience, including project leadership * Bachelor's Degree* Extensive knowledge of actuarial principles in multiple functional areas* Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, of technical material* Creative, innovative, and strategic thinking* Strong affinity for statistical techniques and advanced analytical skills* Strong project management skills* Ability to lead complex technical projects often comprised of multiple team members* Ability to develop the technical and analytical skills of team members* Ability to peer review the technical work of others* Ability to represent the company to external audiencesPreferred Experience and Skills:* Familiarity with workers compensation or NCCI methodologies* Advanced knowledge of actuarial data sources and analytical tools* Familiarity with the development of advanced actuarial ratemaking programs* Three years of relevant experience in one or more of the following areas is a plus:o Commercial and/or large accounts pricingo Experience rating planso Retrospective rating planso Reinsuranceo Working with loss models involving aggregate distributionso Statistical modelingo Catastrophe modelingo Analytics/predictive modelingo Credibility theory As key contributors to our success, our team members enjoy working in a casual, collaborative environment that offers state-of-the-art resources, advanced technologies, and a superior benefits package.We require a drug screen and background check.EEO/Smoke Free environment
