Requisition Number 17-0085 Title Senior Accountant, Tax Compliance and Financial Projects Post Date 2/8/2017 City New York State NY Work Hours Hours Vary DescriptionPurpose of the PositionThis role is responsible for leading a wide scope of financial projects for the Corporate Accounting Team based in its New York office. This role plays an integral part in supporting the Vice President of Finance and the Chief Financial Officer, in the areas of tax compliance, internal control and process efficiency, as well as financial reporting and other special projects. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Tax CompliancePrepare, organize and compile data for the preparation of Federal Form 990, Form 1065 and State tax returns and annual filings. Work closely with the Legal and Compliance teams on corporate governance reporting and disclosure. Liaise and coordinate with the outside tax accounting firm throughout the tax return preparation process (such as timeline, deliverables, deadlines, etc.). Work with outside tax accounting firm to resolve and correspond with state and local tax agencies on notices and inquiries as needed Assist with reviewing Federal and State tax returns prepared by outside tax accounting firm to ensure accurate reporting of information. Coordinate internal management and board review of Federal and State tax returns. Research and document tax related technical issues. Own archive of corporate tax returns and tax compliance related records. Internal Control and Process EfficiencyDocument and review process flow, identify key controls and productivity and efficiency opportunities. Lead reconciliation between general ledger and sub-systems, such as:E-Procurement Payroll Benefits T&E. Financial Reporting Coordinate with the corporate accounting team to obtain accurate information for external financial reporting, such as:Bank covenant ratios Regulatory reports Federal and state compliance reports Perform other duties or special projects as requested Demonstrates knowledge of, and carefully follows all applicable federal and state compliance requirements and regulations including those prescribed by the Department of Education, accrediting agencies, CIE, and internal UMA policies and procedures. Effectively communicates compliance requirements to students and other staff as appropriate and quickly escalates any compliance concerns to the Compliance department. RequirementsEducation/Experience Bachelor's degree in Taxation or Accounting, required A CPA, JD or Masters, preferred 3 to 5 years of tax compliance experience required Experience with Exempt Organization tax compliance (Form 990 and Form 990-T) preferred Technical knowledge of tax laws and regulations preferred Exceptional project management skills required Strong skills with MS Office Suite products - particularly Excel, Word and PowerPoint, required Solid/current knowledge of U.S. GAAP, required Experience with Microsoft GP and QuickBooks required Experience with Concur and E-procurement system preferred Proficiency with financial reporting and general ledger system administration required Associated Knowledge, Skills&Abilities Strong oral and written communication skills Attention to detail and timeliness; strives for a high degree of excellence in work quality and execution Regular contact with those inside and outside of the company to obtain and exchange information requiring interpretation of data.
