General Purpose of the Position:
The Senior Accountant will be responsible for monthly accounting activities, including providing financial information to management; enter and substantiate financial transactions, prepare journal entries, month-end, quarter-end and year-end close. Demonstrate expert knowledge of accounting principles and familiarity with GAAP and/or STAT accounting. Ensure the integrity of the accounting information for compliance and quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare quarterly and annual statutory financial statements accordingly to schedule
Complete month end, quarter-end and year-end closing according to schedule
Perform variance analyses and prepare account reconciliations
Prepare journal entries related to premium and loss production
Prepare journals entries related to reinsurance contracts and settlements
Reconcile suspense accounts monthly to source systems
Analyzing complex financial reports and records
Documenting and monitoring internal controls in support of Audit and SOX compliance
Communicate with co-workers, management, clients, and others in a courteous and professional manner
Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures, and instructions

Expert knowledge of accounting principles
Proven ability to operate independently with minimal daily direction from management
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
Education and Experience Required:
Bachelor's degree in accounting or equivalent experience
5+ years insurance industry experience
Computer Equipment and Software Requirements:
Advanced Windows Microsoft products
Proficiency in Excel and Access
