With proven reliability since 1847, Southern Mutual is a property and casualty insurance company that provides full lines of personal and commercial insurance products through independent agents in the States of Georgia and South Carolina.

We are seeking a Personal Lines Underwriter in Athens, Georgia. The ideal candidate will have a minimum 3-5 years of multi-line personal lines experience along with excellent customer service skills, highly personable demeanor, and ability to build rapport and overcome objections, good judgment and decision making as well as a strong work ethic/desire to succeed.

The candidate will be responsible for the evaluation, selection and continual monitoring of personal lines accounts while managing a territory of independent agents to ensure that profitability and growth objectives for the company are met. Responsibilities include:

• Review personal lines accounts to achieve profitable underwriting results
• Successfully manage a territory of independent agents to ensure that profitability and growth objectives for the company are met

Position Requirements:      

• 3-5 years of underwriting experience at a company or agency level
• Attainment of professional insurance designations, such as CPCU, INS, API, is highly preferred
• Detail knowledge of personal lines policy forms
• Strong grasp of Microsoft Excel
• Familiar with automated underwriting systems
• Superior analytical and communication skills
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Results oriented; ability to make independent sound decisions
