Department/Business Unit – Group Benefits

Duties of Job (how it contributes to department’s objectives)

The Group Benefits Account Manager is responsible for providing prompt, accurate, and courteous first line support in the daily servicing of existing and prospective clients. Assumes full responsibility for administration of new and existing accounts under minimal supervision. Administration includes plan design consultation, marketing of new and renewal accounts, and plan implementation (enrollment, service, technology support, & employee communication).   Effectively communicate all aspects of client accounts and service requirements with the Client, Producer, Carriers, and other department members as required.

Responsibilities

The following list of duties is not all inclusive and may be expanded to include other duties and responsibilities, as management may deem necessary from time to time:

  • Assist Producer(s) with marketing, selection of markets, completion of RFPs, carrier negotiations on coverage and premium, and preparation of final proposal package.
  • Consult with NBD prospect leads on marketing and sale of small groups, as required, per department standards.
  • Responsible for gathering plan underwriting information, ensuring all submissions including applications are complete, accurate, and meet carrier requirements. Oversee case installation and policy changes to ensure correct processing with carrier(s).
  • Monitor expiration lists and initiate renewal process for personal book of business
  • Handle all client, producer, and insurer service requests and assist with claim resolution, per the Group Benefits Service Standards.
  • Coordinate service meetings and carrier website training with client (includes onsite visits as needed).
  • Conduct 30 day / Quarterly / Semi-annual coverage and service reviews with clients with or without producer, as needed/requested
  • Ability to perform all tasks assigned to a CSR or other department Account Manager in the day-to-day servicing and maintenance of the Agency’s book of business in a timely, accurate and professional manner.
  • Exercise discretion and judgment, independently prioritize workload, and delegate assistance as needed to department CSRs.
  • Maintain current licensing status; keep informed on current insurance markets, market trends, legislative requirements and industry changes.
  • Adhere to all office and department procedures and checklists.
  • Other projects, as needed and assigned by the Director of Employee Benefits

Job Qualifications (list the minimum education, formal training, skills and experience required)

  • Illinois Health and Life Producer License.
  • Associate’s degree or equivalent industry experience and/or education.
  • 2+ years of experience with group benefits and working knowledge of insurance coverage and carrier products.
  • Self-confident, self-starter with ability to maintain a positive work atmosphere and effectively communicate (both verbally and in writing) with clients, carriers, producers, coworkers, and management.
  • Strong time-management and organizational skills with high sense of urgency and ability to work well under pressure.
  • Analytical ability; calculate figures and amounts such as commissions, percent change, and volume.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Strong computer skills and understanding of Microsoft Office, EPIC, and other technology tools.
