Experienced Field Claim Representative


Auto-Owners Insurance, a top-rated insurance carrier and Fortune 500 company, is seeking an experienced and motivated claims professional to join our team based out of our Gaylord Claims Branch, Gaylord, MI. The position requires the following:

  • Candidate will be responsible for a territory that consists of the eastern three counties of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan (Chippewa, Mackinac & Luce) and will need to reside in or near this area.
  • Investigate and assemble facts, determine policy coverage, evaluate the amount of loss, analyze legal liability and pay or deny losses. 
  • Handle multi-line property and casualty claims in an assigned territory with an emphasis on property claims.
  • Become familiar with insurance coverage by studying insurance policies, endorsements and forms. 
  • Work towards the resolution of claims, and may attend arbitrations, mediations, depositions, or trials as necessary.
  • Ensure that claim payments are issued in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Handle investigations by phone, mail and/or a physical inspection.

Desired Skills & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years handling multi-line property and casualty claims, with an emphasis on property claims preferred.
  • Field claims handling experience is helpful, but not required.
  • Knowledge of Xactimate residential damage estimating software is preferred, but not required.
  • Above average communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Superior customer service skills and sincere desire to help people.
  • Ability to resolve complex problems or issues.
  • Organize and interpret data.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments and multi-task.
  • Be self-motivated and able to work from home w/ minimal supervision.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record (for company car).
