Reporting to the Financial Clearance Manager, the Financial Clearance Specialist is responsible for all administrative and financial components of financial clearance. Some of the financial components consist of pre-registration, insurance verification, pre-certification, and patient financial information. The position is also responsible for informing the patient/guarantor of all financial liabilities and documenting pertinent information into appropriate systems. The position requires integral communication with patients, insurance companies, department administrators, physicians, and other departmental staff to ensure the ideal patient experience. High School diploma or GED required. Minimum of two years of healthcare experience working for a health plan, physician practice, surgery center or hospital in a business capacity is required. Must have working knowledge of health plan and payer authorization requirements and clinical policies. Excellent communication skills: Must be able to speak and write in a clear and concise manner. Must have strong computer skills. Experience with Cerner is a plus. Experience with Medicaid and Medicaid HMOs is preferred. Should have a working knowledge of CMS and other government programs. Demonstrates an understanding of managed care contracts and payer operations. Must have a strong attention to detail, ability to solve problems while maintaining high accuracy and productivity. Must to able to multi-task and prioritize workload in a fast-paced work environment. Must have excellent customer service skills in working with physicians, payers, patients/guarantors and internal customers. Bilingual skills are a plus. Repetitive motion and strong visual skills required at a computer terminal. Requires sedentary tasks performed at work station. Must be able to move freely about department and facility.
