These employees wanted to create a financial institution that they could trust, one where they had a voice and that would work in a cooperative spirit to help fellow telephone employees obtain hard-to-get loans.Fast-forward 40 years, to the 1980s. The Credit Union had $500 million in assets with 80,000 members and 10 branches throughout Southern California. New technologies started to appear. And for the first time, family members and employees of other Select Employer Groups are eligible to become members of the Credit Union. In 1996, the Credit Union changed its name to Wescom Credit Union, a name that better reflected the more diverse companies and communities it was serving. Now, 80 years after it was formed, Wescom Credit Union is a premier financial institution with nearly 200,000 members, more than $2 billion in assets, and 22 branches throughout five counties in Southern California. What hasn't changed through the years is our commitment to our members. We've never lost sight of the fact that we were formed by our members, we're owned by our members, and we're here to serve our members.
