Job DescriptionBackground The Director of Accounting and Finance is part of the senior leadership team and reports directly to the Executive Director. The Director will provide both hands-on general accounting support and management of not-for-profit financialoperations. This position supervises an Accounting staff and provides consultation to Board of Directors and Executive Director on strategic accounting matters, financial performance and budget. This position takes a leadership role in developing a culture that enables employees to perform in accordance with SVDP objectives. Total revenue for FY2016 was about $10M from Conferences, contributions, grants and seven retail thrift stores with nearly 140 full- and part-time employees. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Budget, Policies & Internal Controls: Designs organization s financial policies, rules and regulations and ensures adherence Develops Agency Fiscal Year budgets Evaluates company processes to reduce risk regarding legal ramifications and compliance Acts as primary liaison with corporate bank and investment broker Analyzes purchase and sale agreements, deal terms and risks of potential acquisitions Reporting: Develops and maintains timely and accurate financial statements and reports appropriate for users and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) Manages monthly and other periodic financial reporting, including cash flow projections, investments, budgets and forecasts Produces year-end reports for government agencies and donors Analyzes and reviews budgets and expenditures for local, state, federal and private funding, contract and grants Supervises business performance and takes steps to improve organizational performance Recommends, develops and maintains financial databases and computer systems Analyzes and manages adherence to reserve and bequest policies Ensures annual audit is scheduled and works with internal and external auditors in completing audits Documents and maintains complete and accurate supporting information for all financial transactions Management & Leadership: Manages and directs staff consistent with organizational culture; issues written and oral instructions, assigns duties and examines work for quality, timeliness and conformance to policies and procedures Manages and motivates staff through recognition; trains, develops, appraises staff, schedules, plans and organizes workload and staff assignments Liaise with Treasurer, Finance Committee and/or Audit Committee as appropriate Specifications Bachelor s degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; CPA preferred Minimum 8 years financial management experience, not-for-profit and retail preferred; hands-on accounting experience required Knowledge of GAAP and regulations affecting charities Project management, budgets, financial reporting POS systems and retail operations preferred Advanced MS Office skills (Expert level in Excel) and knowledge of QuickBooks required Ability to: Supervise and manage Accounting department staff Multi-task Work accurately and meet deadlines Work as part of a team and build relationships Implement necessary requirements to be compliant and reflects those changes in organizational policies and procedures Skill in: Strong communication, written and oral, including follow-up and documentation Identifying, gathering, analyzing information, while developing alternative solutions to resolve problems Customer service focus, responding to needs of customers to meet or exceed expectations Personal qualities of integrity, credibility and a commitment to and passion for SVDP mission Essential physical capability to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds; regularly required to sit, talk or hear; and, occasionally able to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel crouch, or crawl To Apply Apply online under Who We Are and Employment Opportunities at The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
