Claims Trainee - Property & Casualty

Unico American Corporation, through its subsidiaries, underwrites property and casualty insurance in the western states, primarily, California. This role is for a personable, well-organized and analytical individual who is looking for an opportunity to establish a career as an insurance professional. In this role, you will shadow our experienced Claims Adjusters and receive mentorship from our Claims Management Team, gaining comprehensive exposure to various types of Property and Casualty Claims, as well as the subrogation function.

The ideal candidate will be a hands-on learner who applies the training provided to actual claim assignments. The successful candidate will use analytic, investigative and negotiation skills to resolve the claims presented to our company with accuracy and urgency.

The handling of insurance claims is a challenging occupation. People best suited for this type of job are highly adaptable to a variety of circumstances and manage all situations in an intelligent and compassionate manner.

This is a professional-level position that offers great opportunity for advancement. Progression from the Trainee position will be based on performance.

Essential Functions

1. Obtain all facts necessary to properly resolve insurance claims.
2. Identify legal ramifications of facts obtained.
3. Analyze insurance policies in an effort to find coverage that applies to facts obtained.
4. Determine the true value of the financial loss.
5. Performs all other assigned duties.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands

This is mainly a sedentary position. Must be able to sit for long periods of time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. The employee must be available during the company’s regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5pm and for additional time outside of regular business hours, to support the company’s business needs.

Travel

Occasional travel is expected for this position.

Required Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree
• 2+ years of experience in a customer service role

Preferred Education and Experience

• Some experience in the insurance industry.
