Job Overview
Underwriter - Lake Mary, FL
Job Summary:
Review insurance applications to evaluate, classify, and rate public entities insurance and accepts or rejects applications, following established underwriting standards.
Reponsibilities:
- Manage a book of business responding to a variety of questions from Agents and Members related to coverage offered by the public entity pool.
- Examine documents such as applications, inspection reports, insurance maps, financial reports and loss reports to determine degree of risk from such factors as applicant financial standing, accident experience, and value and condition of property.
- Provide quotes, issues binders and coverage agreements as needed, including providing guidance to determine the amount of coverage in force, evaluates possibility of losses due to catastrophe.
- Consult with other administrative representatives, loss control personnel, and other insurance or inspection companies to obtain further information.
- Modify rates when risk is substandard to limit the pool’s obligation, and specifies applicable endorsements, or applies rating to ensure safe and profitable distribution of risks.
- Use a variety of tools including rate books, tables, code books, computer records, and other reference materials.
- Review and participate in the updating of various forms used within the pool, including applications, endorsements, and coverage agreements.
- Other Duties as Assigned
Required Competencies:
- Florida 220 or 440 License
- 3-5 years experience in similar position. Multi-line, package & works comp experience
- Associates or Bachelor's degree in a business related discipline
- Experience with standard ISO and commercial insurance carrier standards
- Profieiency in Microsoft Office products with advanced capabilities in use of Excel and Word
- Experience with insuring Public Entities is a plus
- CPCU designation is a plus
