Paid Internship – Claims Support

Internship Dates: May 22, 2017 – July 28, 2017
Location: Auburn, MA
Working Hours: 8:00am-4:15pm
Pay: $13.50hr plus holiday pay (Memorial Day and 4th of July)

The Main Street America Group has a paid summer internship in our Auburn, MA location.  The Main Street America Group is a billion-dollar super-regional property & casualty insurance company, providing products in 36 states.

You will have the opportunity to build skills in a professional work environment, work directly with our managers and executives, and gain valuable work experience toward employment in the insurance industry.

This is your chance to gain some key exposure to our Claims Department.

During your internship you will be tasked with the following items: 
The intern will receive Basic Insurance /intro to claims handling by the following:  CCU – ability to enter in Home Owners claims into Claim Center. System training on ClaimCenter.

  • Admin:  Overview of Vendor /Claims Support and how this ties into to overall Claim Handling 
  • Admin – Office procedures and methods including computer equipment and supporting applications.  Assist with monthly vendor payments (learning coding for each)
  • Property:  Overview of Property claim handling
  • Property – (Projects) – Comparison of the replacement cost of hold back rates given certain levels of holdback for personal vs. commercial lines
    • Casualty:  Overview of Casualty claim handling
  • Tracking percentage of available lawsuits that are assigned to selected firms to gauge their penetration in a certain geographic area.
  • APD:  Overview of APD Claim handling
  • CCU-ability to enter in First Notices of Loss for Home Owners Claims
  • Admin – Office procedures and methods including computer equipment and supporting applications.  Assist with monthly vendor payments (learning coding for each)
  • Property – (Projects) – Comparison of the replacement cost of hold back rates given certain levels of holdback for personal vs. commercial lines.
  • Tracking percentage of available lawsuits that are assigned to selected firms to gauge their penetration in a certain geographic area.
  • APD/Casualty – Overview of both operations.

We are looking for someone that fits this profile:

  • Current Senior level Student at a 4 year college or university with a focus in Business, Math,  Insurance or Risk Management.
  • GPA of 3.0 or above.
  • Strong analytical skills; prior experience in gathering, organizing, and analyzing data.
  • Enthusiasm to learn in person, using MSA online learning resources and free web resources
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Self-motivated; works well independently.
  • Some knowledge of working in a business office environment is preferred.
