General Purpose of Job This position provides leadership, direction and functional expertise to ensure departmental results for his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility. S/he will direct and provide subject matter expertise on the design and execution of actuarial models and analysis for his/her assigned area(s). In addition, s/he will contribute to the development of Actuarial strategy and ensure the design and execution of actuarial models and associated analysis to enable and support fact based decision making by management. Duties and Responsibilities Lead the valuation team responsible for the Statutory, Tax and GAAP Valuation and Financial Reporting for the Fixed, Fixed Indexed and Payout Annuity product lines reporting through Annuity Financial Management in the Annuities business. Contributes to the strategy development for actuarial trends, issues and/or concerns for his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility. Anticipates and provides strategies/solutions to complex actuarial problems or trends. Develops and implements actuarial policies and procedures. Directs actuarial projects with broad impact to the enterprise, delegating work and providing appropriate levels of support and responsibility to employees. Provides guidance on structure of actuarial models and assumption development and proper balance of precision and timeliness. Monitors developments in actuarial industry and represents the company on industry and professional committees and with regulators and auditors. Presents actuarial recommendations to various levels of management and other stakeholders serving as a subject matter expert. Provides subject matter expertise on highly complex actuarial models and assumption development and suggests new ways of managing risk. Monitors developments in actuarial industry and translates this information to business solutions. Represents the company on industry and professional committees and with regulators and auditors. Leads the research, design and implementation of actuarial modeling techniques and tools to support current/future business needs. Directs and enhances organizational initiatives by positively influencing and supporting change management and/or departmental/enterprise initiatives within assigned area(s) of responsibility. Provides subject matter expertise to team members and internal/external stakeholders on complex assignments/projects for his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility. Provides training and development opportunities, including stretch assignments, for team members and gives honest and open feedback to aid in the development of talent. Provides strategic leadership and direction to continually improve the capability and results for his/her assigned area(s) of responsibility. Directs/executes approved strategy decisions and contributes to strategy creation for assigned area(s) of responsibility. Education and Certification Bachelor s Degree or equivalent work experience Upon Hire Certifications/Licensures : FSA designation or ASA designation with additional years actuarial experience Experience 10+ Years of experience years in actuarial science that directly aligns with the specific responsibilities for this position, including 3+ years of managerial, supervisory, and/or demonstrated leadership experience including influencing senior management/critical stakeholders experience Advance knowledge of the insurance and financial services industry Working knowledge of the fixed, fixed indexed annuity and payout annuity market, products and systems A demonstrated ability to implement process improvements and efficiencies Strong presentation skills with demonstrated ability to influence at all levels of management through clear, informed and logical discussions/presentations. Demonstrates ability to communicate knowledgeably and credibly with senior management and internal constituents. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Apply concepts such as probability, statistics, modeling, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical solutions. Ability to solve problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to think critically, analyze information and to evaluate the implications of a course of action or solution. Demonstrated strong relationship management skills with internal clients (e.g. senior management, peers and colleagues); proven ability to develop creative and collaborative approaches.
