As the Sr. Product Manager, you will lead a growing product team at our fast-moving insurance company. This role will have responsibility across various states and product lines.  The Sr. Product Manager will be accountable for the development and implementation of pricing, policy and customer retention strategies related to our existing insurance business and the planning and development of other insurance lines and complimentary products.

This role reports directly to the President, who is a credentialed actuary, and will be responsible for establishing, monitoring, and influencing all aspects of state growth and performance. The Sr. Product Manager will need to have the skills to oversee a pool of analytical staff to develop and manage of all pricing and underwriting strategies; be able to identify, track and respond to changes in the market, including regulatory issues, legislative issues and competitive practices; and coordinate activities between all departments of this growing company.

This role will directly supervise and train a highly technical team who use advanced Excel, SQL, and sometimes R to perform analysis. Only people with advanced technical skills should apply. A battery of technical tests will be given to ensure this candidate is capable of fulfilling this role 
 
Responsibilities

  • Establish objectives for multiple states and product lines in terms of growth and profitability.
  • Develop, review and implement marketing strategies through the integration of the sales, services, underwriting and pricing functions.
  • Collaborate with various functional departments to maximize the effectiveness of programs while maintaining compliance within each state and across product lines.
  • Monitor the various market places, competitor rate filings and identify industry changes impacting effectiveness or compliance of current, pending and / or proposed programs.
  • Analyze financial results, product profitability, business mix and competitive information and designs forecasting models for assigned states and product lines
  • Develop and implement strategies to manage the catastrophe exposure at an acceptable level in each state.
  • Analyze complex reports and work with management team to implement appropriate changes in pricing position, future rate filings, underwriting standards, sales growth, and claims handling.
  • Effectively analyze performance metrics and direct organization accordingly; assist in developing clearer metrics to analyze performance in new areas.
  • Manage relationship with local regulatory agencies and industry organizations.
  • Lead decisions regarding growth by distribution channel and deployment of sales representatives in the state to achieve new business volume and quality standard and objectives, and to monitor the quality of new business sales results
  • Coordinate involvement in market conduct exams

 
Desired Skills and Experience: 

  • Candidates should have experience managing a technical team in a P&C insurance profession. Prior actuarial experience and/or exams are a plus, as are advanced degrees including MBA, Masters of Statistics, etc.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, analytical, influencing and leadership skills. 
  • Highly developed quantitative analysis and project management experience. 
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex business problems, consistent with a deep understanding of the strategic direction of the business 
  • Strong analytical, leadership, communication, and teamwork skills required 
  • 10+ years of experience in personal lines/commercial lines insurance, or financial services, including four years previous product management experience.
