The Head of Underwriting – Homeowners is responsible for leading and managing the Homeowners Underwriting operations in the Tampa, Florida office. The position will develop and implement processes to review, modify, and issue endorsements, new business, and renewals within established guidelines for Homeowners insurance; will also provide assistance and training to our Customer Service Center and Agents; and will manage the day-to-day underwriting process.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership, assistance, and training to our Underwriting, Customer Service, Endorsement, and Cancellation functions. Includes how to handle Agent and Insured calls/submissions/exceptions and problematic issues. Must be available by phone or email 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM.
  • Lead, develop and manage all underwriting processes and procedures.
  • Conduct audits on underwriting processes and all system-generated policy forms and documents. Work with Reinsurance auditors during scheduled underwriting audits.
  • Provide ongoing input to Product/Actuary on Underwriting Guidelines/Procedures and Forms.
  • Lead the customer service center as they work to answer Agent questions and provide necessary support.
  • Provide Underwriting/System and Procedural support to internal and external customers, including Agents, Marketing, Claims, Legal as needed.
  • Attend all underwriting depositions related to claims litigation. Review for accuracy all Litigation Underwriting Affidavits.
  • Collect and forward all comparative rater and internal system issues to IT.
  • Periodic travel to remote locations as required.
  • Review and respond to all Insured/Agent complaints made directly to the company regarding underwriting, cancellations, endorsements, and customer service.
  • Review and respond to all OIR service requests regarding underwriting, cancellations, and endorsements; as well as Better Business Bureau issues.
  • Review and respond to all inquiries/data calls from the FDFS Division of Agent & Agency Services, and the Department of Insurance Fraud.
  • Report all fraudulent agency activity to the FDFS Division of Agent & Agency Services.
  • All other duties as needed in support of Underwriting, Sales, and Customer Service functions

Qualifications/Requirements

  •     Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent years of experience acceptable
  •     Minimum 5 years of relevant experience
  •     Insurance experience required
  •     Florida Homeowners underwriting experience required
