Job Summary
The Business Insurance segment is an industry leader and has long been a cornerstone and source of pride for Travelers. Writing more than $15 billion in gross premiums, Business Insurance serves businesses of virtually all sizes and scope and across all the primary property and casualty lines of business. We do business in both the United States, as well as several international jurisdictions. Reporting to the Business Insurance (BI) CFO & COO, the VP, FP&A will be an integral member of the BI Finance Senior Leadership team, as well as the broader Travelers finance leadership community. The VP, FP&A will have a broad impact across BI and the Travelers' financial community, and will be accountable for the financial planning process, monthly financial forecasting, strategic planning, monthly and quarterly results, overseeing the strategic investment portfolio and related measurement of benefits, and market intelligence and analysis. The VP, FP&A is also responsible for developing, mentoring and leading BI's financial planning & analysis team and will work collaboratively with functional colleagues in Business Insurance and other financial leaders throughout Travelers. This job is a Manager: Responsible for setting work objectives and goals for employees and managing their performance. Typically involved in compensation decisions. Employees have a formal reporting relationship to this job. This job works under Broad Oversight: Receives guidance in terms of broad goals and overall objectives and establishes the methods to attain them. Generally the incumbent is in charge of an area of work and typically formulates policy for this area, but may have final authority for approving policy.

Primary Job Duties & Responsibilities
Develop a deep understanding of Business Insurance's strategies and priorities. Direct the strategic planning process, ensuring senior leadership understanding and alignment. Direct the preparation of clear, metric-based financial plans for Business Insurance. Develop thoughtful methodologies and apply financial rigor and analysis throughout the process. Lead analysis of financial results against forecast and plan; investigate significant variances, determine impacts to future outcomes and communicate findings to senior leadership. Clearly communicate a cohesive and concise story around business drivers behind financial data and potential implications on future results. Influence business leaders to pursue better outcomes based on facts and insights. Oversee the monthly reporting process and deliver accurate/timely monthly reports through effective utilization of all management information tools to optimize revenue and manage risk effectively. Establish and maintain a 'playbook' of financial and management information reports that provide value to the business in understanding operational results. Understand market dynamics impacting Business Insurance and our customers. Conduct market analysis, synthesize findings and summarize implications to the business using analytics and knowledge of the business. Lead and /or participate in high level strategic initiatives having high leverage impacts on Business Insurance and/or Company results. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues in the Finance and business communities. Provide support for ad-hoc project work. Act as senior leader in the Business Insurance and broader Travelers' finance communities. Effectively attract, retain, develop and lead talent in the Business Insurance FP&A organization. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Minimum of 10 years of relevant finance and/or accounting leadership experience required. Minimum of 5 years of people leadership/management experience required.

Education, Work Experience & Knowledge
Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance preferred. Highly Desirable: Significant professional financial leadership experience, typically 15+ years in finance, accounting, or related field. Strong business acumen and analytic skills. Significant insurance industry, particularly, Property & Casualty knowledge. Large national firm public accounting or related experience. Experience with strategic execution and/or operational leadership.

Significant financial statement results analysis, reporting and accounting skills and experience. Prior CFO experience a plus. Strong understanding of accounting policy and practical application thereof. Able to recognize and act on reporting/accounting changes. Strong financial and internal controls mindset and experience. Licensing or Certificates
Advanced degree or certification (e.g. CPA, MBA, CPCU, ..) preferred.
