Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for directing a unit of Claims Specialists and Total Loss Representatives by planning, organizing, training, and controlling their work on various types of claims. Provides technical assistance to unit on coverage issues, investigation, negotiation techniques, case evaluation, and subrogation. Promotes exceptional customer service.

Monitors all expense control programs. Responsible for bringing about a quick, fair, and economical resolution of claims by directing the claims handling process.

Responsible for staying up-to-date on any changes in claims law.

This position is responsible for managing a team of specialists whose duties can include investigation and validation of legitimate claims, detecting insurance fraud, and deterring efforts to commit insurance fraud.

Responsible for interviewing, selecting, and hiring all employees within the unit. Conducts ongoing personnel evaluations and insures training and development of the unit. Ensures equitable work load distribution among Claims Specialists ,Recovery Specialists, and Total Loss Representatives.

Responsible for the completion of claims assigned to the unit in accordance with provisions within the Texas Insurance Code.

Reviews all files in the unit involving coverage questions, reinsurance involvement, claims exceeding adjuster authority, claims open in excess of 90 days, and claims involving complaints.

Responsible for maintaining a professional relationship with all approved defense firms and/or attorneys. Responsible for conducting periodic visits and case reviews with these attorneys in an effort to maintain a positive rapport at all times. Additionally, this duty will require a periodic review of legal fees and case handling budgets to assure that all defense attorneys charge a fair and equitable rate for their services. Responsible for selecting other competent vendors that will assist with mitigating expenses and claims indemnity.

Performs other related duties as directed by management.
Requirements:

1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a minimum of five (5) years claims experience.

2. Must have and maintain an All-Lines or Property & Casualty Adjuster License as required by the State of Texas.

3. Must have extensive knowledge of legal principles, legal changes, investigation, negotiation/settlement techniques, and subrogation.

4. Must exhibit excellent written and oral communication skills. Must be a good listener.

5. Must have a sound understanding of dwelling and unscheduled personal property claims, to include the nuances of Texas first party property litigation claims.

6. Must have solid understanding of subrogation concepts, to include recovery techniques and arbitration.

7. Must have PC skills and the ability to learn claim management systems and other related claims software applications.

8. Must be bondable.

9. Must possess a valid Texas Drivers License.
