Argonaut Insurance Company currently has a challenging opportunity for a Senior Workers’ Compensation Claims Adjuster.  The primary purpose of this position is to successfully manage liens associated with workers’ compensation claims in the California jurisdiction.  This position will be located in our San Francisco, CA office but also requires frequent appearances at the San Francisco Board and occasional appearances at the Boards in Southern California.

 

Responsibilities:
 

 

  • Actively manage caseload of liens from workers’ compensation claims and asbestos claims.
  • Manage diary and complete tasks to ensure that cases move to the best financial outcome and timely resolution.
  • Appear at the Board to represent Argo’s interests for lien resolution.
  • Resolve liens from other Adjusters’ workers’ compensation claims files.
  • Analyze coverage issues and determine exposure to properly set claim reserves.
  • Identify, assign, and coordinate the assignment and coordination of expertise resources to assist in case resolution.
  • Applying creative solutions which result in the best financial outcome.
  • Works in conjunction with the assigned adjuster to determine the lien exposure and to secure authority to resolve each claim to its final resolution.
  • Processing mail and prioritizing workload.
  • Responsible for telephone calls from various parties (insured, claimant, medical facilities, etc.).
  • Developing excellent working relationships with applicant attorneys.
  • As time permits complete appearances, depositions, and walk through settlements for workers’ compensation claims being managed by other Adjusters.
  • Have an appreciation and passion for strong claim management.


Qualifications:

 

  • Must have good business acumen (i.e. understand how an insurance company works and makes money, including how this role impacts both Argonaut’s and our customers’ ability to be profitable).
  • Minimum of five years of successful workers’ compensation claim management experience in proactively resolve lien claims.
  • Bachelors degree and/or multiple industry designations required.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor at all times, and particularly when representing Argo’s interests at the Board for lien resolution and asbestos cases.
  • Must have strong litigation management skills and excellent knowledge of applicable case law.
  • Ability to prioritize workload and handle multiple tasks.
  • Ability to articulate the financial value of your work at multiple responsibility levels inside our clients’ business which may include the CEO.
  • Exhibit a natural curiosity.
  • Desire to work in a fast paced environment.
  • Excellent evaluation and strategic skills required.
  • Strong claim negotiation skills a must.
  • Must possess a strong customer focus.
  • Must work independently and demonstrate the ability to exercise sound judgment.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite and other business-related software.
  • Polished and professional written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to read and write English fluently is required.  The ability to read and write Spanish fluently is strongly preferred but not required.
  • Ability to travel, sometimes overnight, approximately 5% of the time.  Our employees are required to have sufficient credit available to incur travel expenses (i.e. airfare, lodging, meals, rental car) for the duration of the trip.  Eligible travel and entertainment expenses are reimbursed in accordance with Argo’s Travel & Entertainment Policy approximately one week after an expense report has been approved for payment.
